National Police inspector Walter Peña Martín became the fifth victim of a traffic accident. The officer managed to intervene, but due to the severity of his injuries; failed to survive.

Relatives told EL TIEMPO that the only survivor miraculously was the family’s eight-year-old daughter. Amid the overcrowding carried by the Spark GT car, traveling by six people, he was only slightly injured and escaped danger.

A family member who came to Ciénaga, where the injured were being treated, tearfully told how this group’s dream vacation plans turned out.

“The first time they went to Santa Marta and everything turned into a real tragedy. We never thought that this could happen, and first of all, know the sea, as my uncle wanted to grant the wish of my grandmother, who was one of the deceased,” said the relative.

Colonel Andrés Serna Bustamante, commander of the Magdalena Police, lamented the death of José Roberto Peña Urbina, who received a pension from the Police and other family members. Likewise, he urged passengers to obey traffic rules and drive carefully.

“What happened has caused us to urge drivers to obey and respect the signs to avoid any mishaps. Whether you want to arrive at your destination safely is up to you,” the officer said.
