Last year Will Wheaton spoke about the abuses during the making of Stay with methese are harmful behaviors of the parents of the interpreter, who was forced into action. Jerry O’Connell he worked on the set of Stand by Me with Will Wheaton, and recently spoke to The Talk about these episodes while standing next to the same artist.

Here are his words:

Before I start talking, I’d like to say I learned about the issues you had while making Stand by Me, and you know I was 11 at the time, but this is just one justification, I want to apologize for not have been closer to you when you needed it. Sometimes you don’t realize what someone is going through when you are close to them, I don’t feel guilty, but I want to apologize.

Will Wheaton himself justify O’Connell by saying, “You were 11, how could you know?”. Wheaton noted some time ago that on the set of Stand by Me, he suffered from “a combination of emotional abuse by my father and manipulation by my mother. When I watch Stand by Me, I can’t help but ignore the unbelievable sadness in my eyes. And it was that sadness and isolation that brought Gordie to life.”
