Netflix is the quintessential company streaming series and films, but not everything is going as we would like, at least this year.
According to the company, in the first three months of 2022, the number of platform subscribers decreased by 200,000 users.
There are several reasons for this loss, including Tough competition other companies impossibility of expansion in some territories due to technological limitations, the war between Ukraine and Russia and account sharing (especially the last one).
The platform is estimated to have 222 million subscribers worldwide, but over 100 million share accounts, and that does not benefit Netflix.
streaming company already tried several solutionsfor example, the ability to add two additional accounts for $3 each, which was launched in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru.
But that doesn’t seem like enough, and according to Reed Hastings, co-CEO of Netflix, they’re going to try add cheaper plans but with ads.
Reed says he’s a fan of the simplicity of subscriptions and admits he’s not too sure about using ads, but if it can help more users to join the platformeven at lower cost, one would have to study it, although experts do not agree that this is beneficial.
He says to give the ability to pay less for those users who have no problem viewing ads makes senseso with a term of 1/2 year they are going to study and try to implement this option.
At the same time he announces that the idea is to add different types of subscriptions with adsand depending on how much it will cost, show more or less ads.
This is more than an interesting way to attract users who are already other platforms successfully tested like Hulu, HBO or Disney.
Of course, the expansion of Netflix’s capabilities would be good news for those who find the cost of the platform notoriously expensive.
