After theAcademy has decided to ban Oscar the translator Will Smith for ten years, by the blow of the actor a Chris RockSmith himself has decided to release an official statement, stating that he accepts the Academy’s decision.
These are the words of Will Smith:
I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.
However, a few words that make us understand how the interpreter, at least on an official level, aligns with the difficult decision of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The association therefore justified the measure taken:
The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many members of our community who did an incredible job last year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. Smith perform on stage.
We did not handle the situation properly during the broadcast. We apologize for this. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, for our viewers, and for our Academy family around the world, and we didn’t succeed. Unprepared for the unexpected never seen before.
