The US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has developed a tactical operational system and THOR designed to neutralize UAV group rates.
THOR implements the principle of influencing unmanned directed energy in the form of high-energy microwaves; the installation “bursts” strikes UAVs over large areas. At the same time, it does not “cut” them, it produces them with a laser, but burns out the on-board electronics.
THOR costs $18 million. It comes in a standard six-meter bay and includes a container that fits in the cargo hold of a C-1 30 Hercules, where it can independently install two soldiers in about three hours. The system is easy to operate, largely due to the convenient I intervened.
