The time it takes for an object to decompose in the sea depends on the temperature of the water. So everything can happen extremely slowly in cold water. So much so that the corpse will eventually remain at the bottom of the sea. After about a week, the skin will absorb water and peel off, and the marine life will gnaw at human flesh.
There were cases when, after a few weeks, nearly intact corpses were removed from the seawater. And the water temperature was below 7 degrees Celsius. And the human skeleton is recognizable even after a few years.
But things are different in tropical waters. For example, in the Arabian Sea, even a heavy object rises to the surface in three to four days. After a week or two the birds will dismember the body and the bones will sink to the bottom. There, depending on the acidity level of the water, they will either be buried under the sea silt or disappear within a few months or not.
