The number of private investors on the Moscow Stock Exchange increased by 496,000 people in May. Their share in the trading volume of shares exceeded 80%, and the most popular securities in their portfolios have long been the shares of Sberbank, Gazprom and Lukoil.

The number of private investors – individuals on the Moscow Stock Exchange in May increased by 496.3 thousand and reached 25.56 million people, according to a press release from the site. In April, their number increased by 548 thousand people.

The share of individuals in the trading volume of shares was 80.3%, in bonds – 30.2%, in the derivatives market – 64.2%.

Most brokerage accounts by region are opened in Moscow (2.3 million), St. Petersburg (1.1 million), Krasnodar Territory (0.94 million).

The most popular securities in the portfolios of private investors have long been Sberbank ordinary shares (30.5%), Gazprom shares (20.7%) and Lukoil shares (11.4%).

Quarterly trading volume on the Moscow Stock Exchange in the first quarter of 2023 fell by 64%. Trading volume in index derivatives decreased the most, at 87%. At the same time, the site’s net income grew 77% year-over-year in the quarter.
