Apple Park opened its doors to the public on June 5 to mark one of the most important events of the year for Apple. After a few words from the company’s CEO, Tim Cook, they then started focusing on operating systems and announcing all the software news at the Apple WWDC event. tvOS 17 was on the list.

Apple only introduced a few new features in tvOS 17 and that’s little, but these are pretty exciting improvements compared to previous software updates for Apple TV.

tvOS 17: what’s new, features and compatibility

First of all, tvOS 17 will now be featured multi-user supportso it will allow each family member to have their own account and their own apps.

Additionally, Apple TV has a New design for Control Center From tvOS 17. It has a sleeker, more modern look with the addition of new multi-user elements and system features.

FaceTime is coming to tvOS 17

One of the biggest surprises of tvOS 17, FaceTime integration on AppleTV. That’s it, you can now make FaceTime video calls with friends and family on your TV! Start the video call with your iPhone, hold your smartphone close to the Apple TV and the video call will be ported to tvOS 17.

Apple TVs compatible with tvOS 17

As of this update, tvOS 17 will only work with 4K Apple TV models, removing the original Apple TV HD released in 2015 from the list. In this case, compatible models would be:

• Apple TV 4K: 1st generation (2017).
• Apple TV 4K: 2nd generation (2021).
• Apple TV 4K: 3rd generation (2022).

In addition, Apple introduced new hardware products such as iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14 Sonoma and MacBook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro.
