Experts from the Belfast Health and Welfare Trust and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland analyzed data from 10,528 patients on the island of Ireland. All these patients were hospitalized with ST elevation myocardial infarction in 2013-2018. That is, with a serious heart attack.

Scientists have found that heart attacks occur most often in humans at the beginning of the work week. And the highest numbers were on Monday. Also, higher-than-expected numbers came in on Sunday.

Experts still do not fully understand why heart attacks occur most often on Mondays. Previous research has revealed a link between heart attacks and the circadian rhythm (i.e. the sleep-wake cycle).
