According to the showrunner, he decided to see if OpenAI’s brain could write a script for one of the upcoming Black Mirror episodes. To do this, Brooker entered the command “create a Black Mirror episode”.

The result was “bad”, as the author reported. “At first glance, the script looked pretty believable, but if you look closely, it’s clear that it’s a mix of summaries of episodes that already exist. It lacks originality and depth of thought,” Brooker shared.

He also described this experience as beneficial. It helped Brooker understand that he shouldn’t repeat the same patterns in his work. Moreover, the author of Black Mirror concluded that there is no point in making an anthology if you can’t break your own rules.

Black Mirror season six premieres on Netflix on June 15.
