China can limit the use of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Air Drop for citizens. The Cyber Security Administration of the People’s Republic of China has placed a bill on the restriction of short-range Internet networks. Kommersant drew attention to the document.

China wants to limit the use of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to ordinary citizens

According to the bill, service providers will have to implement systems to monitor the data that circulates through said networks and stop the transmission of prohibited content.

Ordinary users of the bill oblige “take measures to prevent the production, copying or distribution of unwanted information.” Also, according to the document, citizens must inform the authorities if they received such content.

Among other things, the bill involves limiting the automatic connection of devices to networks. In addition, the personal data of the owners of the devices from which the connection occurred will be sent to the network operators.

The move was a response to the massive protests in China against covid restrictions that took place last fall. Then the participants of the actions broadcast a video about what was happening via AirDrop and Bluetooth.
