The head of the Federal Fisheries Agency, Ilya Shestakov, said that Russia has developed a system to automatically check the legality of crabs in Russian food establishments. According to the official, it will be available in two months.

An examination by the Federal Fisheries Agency and Rosselkhoznadzor of crabs supplied to Moscow restaurants and hotels at the end of 2022 showed that only 3% of them are absolutely legal. For this, two databases were used – on catch (owned by the Federal Fisheries Agency) and electronic veterinary certificates (“owned by Rosselkhoznadzor”).

Shestakov said that after that, the departments began to jointly create an automatic verification system.
