One health official noted that even a 20-minute walk each day helps reduce the chances of developing heart disease. The American Heart Association reported in a study published in the journal Circulation that heart health can be improved by increasing the amount of physical activity.

According to the American Heart Association, adults can reach the recommended 150 minutes of physical activity per week with 20 minutes of walking a day. Often, the populations most at risk of developing heart disease do not get enough exercise.
