The State Duma forced all taxi drivers and taxi companies to insure their passengers. The law will enter into force on September 1: the minimum amount of payment for an insured event will be 2 million rubles. The current law on passenger insurance does not apply to passenger taxis.

The State Duma forced taxi drivers to insure passengers for 2 million rubles.

The State Duma in the second and third reading approved a bill on compulsory insurance of taxi passengers, writes TASS. The document is published in the legislative support system.

Under the bill, insurance must be taken out for each vehicle that has received a permit to operate as a taxi. Payment for an insured event will be at least 2 million rubles.

If an individual entrepreneur, a legal person or a self-employed person does not take out insurance, they will not be able to transport passengers as a taxi. The rules of the law will enter into force on September 1.

Since 2013, a law on passenger insurance has been in force in Russia, but passenger taxis are not included in it. In this case, the victims can count on payment under the OSAGO law, amounting to up to 500 thousand rubles.
