The government approved a bill on the tax on excess profits: it will be 10% of “the amount of excess profits” for 2021-22 on the same indicator for 2018-19. The money will be used to support families with children, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said. The bill allows exceptions, for example, in the term of payment of taxes: if you pay before, you will pay less.

Government ‘with a series of exceptions’ approves excess profits tax bill

In the government assembly, the bill on the tax on excess profits for companies was approved. This announcement was published on the website of the Ministry of Finance.

The tax rate will be 10% of excess profit for 2021-2022 over the same indicator for 2018-2019. The amount of the “contribution” of the company will be calculated independently, the tax must be paid before January 28, 2024.

“By agreement with the social bloc, we will allocate these resources to support families with children, to the decisions that were made last year on specific and targeted support for families in need,” said Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

Various exceptions are allowed in the approved bill. Companies established after 2020, as well as those whose average profit before taxes in the period 2021-2022 did not exceed 1 billion rubles, will not need to pay the tax.

Small and medium-sized companies, oil and gas companies, and coal mining companies, which pay the unified agricultural tax, will also be exempt from paying the tax.

In addition, you can reduce the amount of the tax from 10% to 5% if you pay it earlier, from October 1 to November 30, 2023.
