Now Acer has portable monitorscapable of doing the same. I protested against Acer SpatialLabs View Pro, saw 3D and was impressed.
What is an Acer SpatialLabs View
It’s portable 4K-monitor weighing 1.5 kg with its own battery for 5 hours battery life. It has a built in storage stand. External devices are connected via the HDMI port via a cable.
The monitor matrix in the View Pro model is calibrated for professional use, supports 100% Adobe RGB color gamut, has a color gamut of 400 nits and a high viewing angle without reflection.
Stereoscopic functionality requires Windows OS and adds a USB connection to the USB-C port on the computer monitor to receive “depth” data from the source PC.
That is, the monitor can be used independently as, in fact, the monitor without any effects. It works with widely used image sources, whether it’s a laptop running any OS or even a desktop game console displaying an honest 4K picture. To work in 3D-mode requires Windows OS, as well as powerful hardware. The recommended configuration in this case is a processor at least Intel Core i7 and a video card no weaker than GeForce RTX 2070.
How the Acer SpatialLabs 3D monitor works without glasses
In the display frame are installed two dedicated cameras. They determine the position of the head of a person sitting in front of the monitor in the estimation of time.
Based on the data obtained, the monitor in a stereoscopic microscope corrects the surrounding objects: the right eye receives an image from the right corner, and not the left eye from the left. Thus, the human brain is “deceived”: combining these two images together, we see a visual picture instead of the usual “flat” one.
Ten years ago, a similar “glassless” 3D technology was popularized by the company Nintendo in 3DS handheld game consoles. However, the image quality and resolution were very low, and the display diagonals were sharp. The complexity of the production of screens and systems at the moment when there is no other manufacturer, to introduce the idea into other products.
But Acer has succeeded in 2022.

1. Generating a stereoscopic image from the accumulated: generating 3D surround from a “flat” accumulation, like YouTube videos.
2. Generation in 3D applications: creating 3D from, in fact, a volumetric cluster – like 3D editors and games.
In the second case, multiple High display accuracy stereoscopic objects. Moreover, Acer has already implemented excellent advanced 3D image generation in more than 50 modern and simply popular games.
Among them Cyberpunk 2077, god of War and many other titles. On the SpatialLabs View monitor, they reveal themselves in a completely different quality, demonstrating the illusion of three-dimensionality of absolutely everything on the screen – without noticeable delay.
Nearby virtual objects correctly have a value from distant ones even in dynamics, and this is very difficult to convey. Moreover, it is impossible to convey in the photo, to my great regret.
You will have to take my word for it or see such a monitor live. Conventional cameras are used only with lenses, so stereoscopic imaging is not recommended.
What it’s like to use Acer SpatialLabs View Pro for gaming and work

It is very difficult to convey instructions on how the game process changes in this mode. You wonder how sick when in front of you comes alive already seems to be a familiar game world. I want it literally touch objects, so they really exist. And all this without glasses!
The monitor is positioned as a solution not only for gamers, but also for creative people involved in large-scale graphics software. Nothing incredible that we have not seen yet, especially in such a feature rich implementation. Therefore, Acer SpatialLabs View Pro will definitely find its audience. Even I, once the owner of three Nintendo 3DS at once, was interested in testing such an unusual device.
