Over the past month, WhatsApp users on Android have reported that the microphone is activated when using the app without permission. Now, HE Google fixed the error and emphasized that people’s privacy was not compromised. It was just an error in the display.

According to Android Developers, the developer’s Twitter page, only a limited number of messaging users were affected. There was a concern about using the feature in the background.

The tweet said, “Users can now update their WhatsApp apps to fix this issue. We thank WhatsApp for collaborating with us and apologize for any confusion this bug may have caused.”

The issue with the indicator was spotted by Foad Dabiri, an engineer at Twitter. After its sharing, other reports started to come from users who all already have the Android 13 operating system.

The complaints even caught the attention of tech tycoon Elon Musk. Twitter, Tesla and SpaceX owner Mark Zuckerberg poked Meta, commenting “WhatsApp is unreliable”.
