WhatsApp now lets you send videos in high quality: here’s how you can try it

WhatsApp is the main means of communication for a large part of the world’s population. Regardless, when we decide to share images or videos with friends and family, this is the last option to consider due to the drastic quality loss it entails. Luckily, it looks like the company is aware of this. According to a recent report from WABetaInformation, very soon we will be able to send HD content through the app.

Although WhatsApp allows us to share files up to 2 GB for all kinds, this number drops to 16 MB when it comes to videos. An absurd limitation at a time when smartphones are capable of recording 4K and 8K videos.. This means that when trying to share this type of content, the app must drastically reduce the resolution and quality to fit the more limited size.

However, in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android version 2.23.14.10 some users have confirmed the presence of the HD button. This appears when trying to send a video to any contact. Clicking on this option opens a menu that allows you to choose between standard and high quality, which means a significant increase in file size. Of course, it will take longer to send if we send it at a higher resolution, but it also means it can be viewed better.

From what has been seen in the beta, WhatsApp will continue to send videos in normal resolution. It means that you will need to manually select the HD option. In addition, the compression level is maintained even with the specified function active, but much less than so far.

According to the media WABetaInformation, the app will display the HD label on those videos that were sent in a higher resolution. Thus, users can quickly determine which one is each. The default option is for those videos where resolution is not that important, or for those where upload speed is more important than quality.

This is still a beta, so it may take some time for this feature to become available to all WhatsApp users. When will it be available to everyone? This is something we still don’t know. However, given the other beta versions of the service, more users using this version of the messaging app should be enabled very soon.
