Dmitry Galov, principal investigator of Kaspersky Lab’s local cybersecurity center, has unveiled ways to help protect our phones and ourselves from a new threat to smartphones running the Android operating system.
The expert warns of the emergence of a new virus known as the Rasket Trojan, which poses a serious threat to Android device owners. This malware gains access to users’ personal data and can then blackmail and demand ransom.
The virus is spreading under the guise of dating services, adult chats, and apps that promise radar detector functionality or offer lottery deals.
When activated on a device, the Trojan can access its owner’s videos, photos, documents, messages, and contacts. The attackers behind this virus threaten to publish the compromised data if the user does not pay the ransom. But Galov strongly advises not to pay the required amount.
According to the expert, the only way to protect your smartphone is to use an antivirus program.
