France has legalized the surveillance of suspected criminals through a camera, microphone and GPS on your smartphone. Police will be able to remotely monitor suspects. This will help save human lives, the French Ministry of Justice noted.
The lower house of the French parliament passed a law on remote surveillance of criminal suspects. This was reported on the website of the French Senate.
The police will be able to use the camera, microphone and GPS data of the suspected criminal’s smartphone to spy on him. A court order is required to obtain the proper authority.
Journalists, lawyers and representatives of other “sensitive” professions will be exempt from the law. Police will exercise the legal right to surveillance several times a year, the French Justice Ministry said.
The law still needs to be approved by the French Senate.
