Results corresponding to the second fiscal quarter 2022 Disney+ reflected strong subscriber growth, this time reaching 221 million users worldwide and even surpassing Netflix with its 220.7 million subscribers.

Despite these good numbers, the streaming platform led by Bob Chapek continues its plans to launch an ad-supported subscriptionin which users, in addition to paying, will see ads during the broadcast of a series or movie.

While this subscription isn’t officially available yet, Disney+ and several media reports have offered some details. Among them, the number of ads that will be shown per hour of play, what will happen to these child accounts, or even the price and final launch date of this new plan. These are all the details that we know at the moment.

Disney+ Ads: Alternative plan to current one

Initially, an ad-supported subscription will not replace the one currently included by Disney+. This, remember, is priced at $7.99 per month (if you don’t take into account the recently announced increase). This, instead, will be offered as a cheaper alternativewhich allows users to choose whether to pay a higher monthly fee and watch content without interruption or, on the other hand, save a little more money and view ads from time to time.

A subscription with ads can cost €7.99 per month.. Yes, the same one that Disney+ offers on the current ad-free plan. The platform, however, announced an increase in the price of the standard subscription, which will become 10.99 dollars (at least in the US). So the difference between a plan with and without ads would be $3/month or $36/year. It would be like this.

  • Subscription without ads: $10.99 per month (about $130 per year).
  • Subscription with ads: $7.99 per month (about $95 per year, savings $3 per month).

On the other hand, various media reports such as Wall Street Magazine make sure those who choose an ad-supported plan see four minutes of ads per hour of content. It is not clear, yes, the maximum duration of advertising. Thus, Disney+ can show four 30-second videos every half hour, or two one-minute videos every half hour.

What ads will Disney+ show? What will happen to child profiles?

While Disney+ hosts adult content on its platform, and not just under 18s, it seems that the company aims to serve ads that target audiences of all ages. Thus, it will not allow advertising related to the sale of products containing alcohol or even political or related ones. The company is reported Diversityand will not allow competing companies to advertise on its platform.

Children’s profiles will also be free of ads. We must not forget that adult content is limited on these types of accounts and only shows or films aimed at children are shown.

When will the subscription with ads start?

Everything points to the ad-supported Disney+ plan going live next December 8. For now, in the United States, a country where, as we recall, the price of a standard subscription will rise to $10.99 per month.
