WhatsApp Web is testing a new sign-in method. Allows to connect to a messaging account without scanning the QR Code. The alternative offers the use of a connection by phone number, as reported by WABetaInfo on Saturday (8).

The novelty appeared in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.23.14.18 and it may have already been experienced by some testers. However, it is possible to link the account in the messaging service to the version accessed by the browser using only the phone number and a code associated with it.

This tool can make it easy to use WhatsApp to stay in touch with family and friends on a secondary device. For example, if the mobile phone camera is not turned on and access is denied using the standard method, it will still be possible to use the messenger on the computer.

Signing in using the code sent with the mobile number is currently only supported on WhatsApp Web. The option offered to use the same account on a secondary smartphone is the traditional option that requires reading the QR Code.

How is the feature tested?

If you have WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.14.18 on your mobile, you can check the availability of the feature by trying to log in to the WhatsApp Website. Click on the “Connect with phone number” option on the page that opens, enter the mobile phone number with DDD, press “Next” and wait for the code that appears on the screen.

The next step is performed on the phone. Open WhatsApp, go to the options menu — the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen — tap “Connected devices”, then “Connect device” and “Connect by phone number”. Finally, enter the code shown on the PC screen and confirm.

now, Phone number sign-in is limited to trial version of WhatsApp on Android, but some iOS users can also access it after the latest update. The launch for the general public does not yet have a date for it to happen.
