It’s been a few weeks since tragic explosion of underwater Titanbut stay tuned for an investigation and explanations of how things happened.
channel YouTube from studioresponsible for the production of original engineering videos in 3D 4K, has published a very interesting animation that sheds light on what happened on June 18 at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.
The video explains that implosion “It’s a process of destruction by collapsing into the object itself.”.
studio indicates that in the case of Titan, the implosion was caused by “very high hydrostatic pressure of the surrounding water, which occurs in fractions of a millisecond”.
Similarly, at the depth at which the remains of the Titanic were found, “about 5600 psi pressure”, which represents “nearly 400 times the pressure we experience at the surface.”
“Because the submersible is deep in the ocean, it experiences a force on its surface due to water pressure. When this force becomes more than the hull can handle, the ship explodes violently“.
The video also explains that the Titan had an “experimental design” and used primarily carbon fibersthe advantage of which is that they are lighter than titanium or steel.
