Therapist Rimma Popova of the DocMed clinic shared tips on what to do if you get bitten by a bee or wasp. She explained that wasps can sting several times, while a bee stings only once, dying by leaving its sting in the skin.
It is important to remove the needle from the skin quickly and carefully. The longer it stays, the more venom is released, causing pain and swelling. In order not to damage the venom sac, the needle can be removed by passing a credit card or gauze over the affected area. Do not try to remove it with your fingers or tweezers as this can make the situation worse.
After removing the needle, it is recommended to wash the skin area with soap and water, apply a cold compress and take an over-the-counter pain reliever. If itching or swelling occurs, you can take an antihistamine. It is important not to scratch the bite site, as this can lead to infection. If you notice signs of an allergic reaction such as weakness, paleness, dizziness, swelling of the lips, tongue, face, or difficulty breathing, call an ambulance immediately.
