The Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) can be replaced by the improved Bulava-M modification.
A source from the rocket and space industry for TASS said that a consortium of manufacturers led by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering has the necessary advances to design rockets.
One of the features of solid-fuel ICBMs is the aging of gunpowder, which makes it necessary to replace Bulava. The new missile will be created using new design solutions that will make it possible to use existing and under construction submarines of the Borey family for their bases without major changes to the latter.
Now the Bulava missiles are equipped with six nuclear-powered strategic missile submarines of the Borey family of projects 955 and 955A. The other four nuclear-powered vessels are at different stages of construction, two of them being prepared for laying.
