Trademarks and the website of the Respublika book chain were bought by an individual businessman, Dmitry Aliev, at auction as part of the bankruptcy for 4.8 million rubles. The initial price of the assets was 53.5 million rubles.
Respublika was founded by Vadim Dymov, the owner of the Dymov food manufacturer. The company operated approximately 40 stores in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, and Yekaterinburg.
The bankruptcy of the network began in November 2020. The company argued that the pandemic had caused irreparable damage to the chain’s business. However, Respublika’s troubles began earlier, its partners blaming the difficulties on aggressive growth and pressure on book retailing from online commerce.
After the bankruptcy began, the company transferred all offline points to the ProLife franchisee of Kazakh businessman Igor Deriglazov, and since then the LLC itself has only run an online store.
Interlocutors of the publication believe that Dmitry Aliyev can be an intermediary for the return of the bankruptcy assets network. Lawyers point out that very often the buyers at bankruptcy auctions are associated with the debtor’s owners.
