Russia launched the first mission to the Moon since 1976. The Soyuz-2.1b rocket launched successfully from the Vostochny Cosmodrome and will carry the Luna-25 automatic station to Earth’s satellite. The landing of the device is scheduled for August 21.
Russia has launched a mission to the Moon for the first time in 47 years. The launch of the Soyuz launch vehicle from the Vostochny cosmodrome was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the state corporation Roscosmos.
The Soyuz launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage will deliver the Luna-25 station to the Earth satellite on August 21.
Roskosmos has already reported about the separation of the station from the upper stage and the fall of three of the four stages of the rocket in the Amur region, where the cosmodrome is located.
The task of the “Luna-25” station is to study the lunar soil for the presence of ice.
The launch of Luna-25 was Russia’s first mission to the Moon in 47 years. Luna-24 station was inaugurated in 1976.
Roskosmos plans to launch the next stations in the period from 2027 to 2030.
