In Russia, a special application has been developed that helps to assess the risk of postoperative complications in patients with atherosclerosis. This news was shared by Ivan Vinokurov, a scientist working at the National Research Center for Surgical Surgery named after Academician BV Petrovsky.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic disease in which arteries are affected and atherosclerotic plaques form in them. They can cause problems with blood flow to organs by narrowing the lumen of the arteries. Treatment of atherosclerosis often requires surgery, and it is important for doctors to anticipate what complications may arise after these.

Scientists have developed a calculator application based on statistical analysis. They examined what complications can arise in different types of operations and conditions of the body. They’ve incorporated this information into the app: doctors can enter patient data and make recommendations for choosing the best surgery with minimal risk of complications.

The app is currently under review to ensure its effectiveness. Although it is not widely used yet, it promises to greatly facilitate the work of surgeons and to assist in choosing the most appropriate treatment methods for patients.
