Depending on some factors, we may experience bruises. Doctor Anastasia Akulova, a specialist in cardiovascular surgery at the Central Clinical Hospital “RZD-Medicine”, says that such factors are associated with the condition of our vessels.

One of the factors is the fragility of blood vessels. It can occur due to a lack of vitamins C and P, as well as diabetes. Bruising can also be the result of systemic autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and vasculitis. Even pregnancy can affect bruising due to hormonal changes. Also, bruising can be associated with a condition of thrombocytopenia when the number of platelets in the blood is reduced.

Aging also plays a role. Tissues in our body become less elastic over time, including arteries, veins, and capillaries. Therefore, even small changes in barometric pressure can cause bruising. It should also be noted that people who take blood thinners may have a tendency to bruise.
