Yandex Go has tested additional navigation methods for Android devices amid problems with geolocation in Moscow, the service’s press service reported. You can now set up browsing for cell towers and Wi-Fi hotspots.
The company began training drivers and couriers to set up smartphones. To use the alternative method, you need to enter developer mode and remove the restriction on Wi-Fi scanning.
In addition, the service began to warn drivers and passengers about geolocation failures, if they are on the route of the order.
In June, Yandex.Maps optimized geolocation determination in its services without the involvement of GPS. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are used to improve performance.
Disruptions in geolocation determination have been observed in Moscow since May 2023. They were preceded by an incident with a UAV on Red Square. Then the Yandex taxi service began to offer passengers to additionally check addresses before starting trips.
