This virus uses a unique anti-analysis method that allows it to bypass standard security measures for APK files.

The main feature of the new development is the use of non-standard or highly modified compression algorithms, which makes it invisible to anti-virus programs.

That is why this method is still unknown to most antiviruses – malware can disguise itself as a normal application and bypass protective measures altogether.

Zimperium research found 3,300 APK files using this questionable compression method. Of these, 71 examples work fine on Android 9 and newer.

Although these apps are not available on the Google Play Store, they are believed to be distributed via third-party app stores or sideloading.
