The new head of Roskosmos announced the date of Russia’s final withdrawal from the International Space Station project. At the same time, NASA did not receive an official notification from the corporation about the withdrawal of the project, the organization said.

“The decision is made”: the new head of Roscosmos announced the deadline for Russia to withdraw from the ISS project

The fact that Russia will withdraw from the ISS project after 2024, said the head of Roskosmos Yuri Borisov at a meeting with Vladimir Putin.

“The decision has been made to abandon this station after 2024,” Borisov said, adding that Russia will fulfill its obligations to partners.

The priority for Roskosmos will be the creation of ROSS, the Russian Orbital Service Station. By the time the ISS leaves the project, Roscosmos will begin to form the station, Yury Borisov specified. In September 2021, the former head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said that ROSS would be deployed in six years.

NASA said that they have not yet received an official notification from Roscosmos about the withdrawal of the ISS project. “Nothing official,” said NASA’s ISS program manager Robin Gateens.

Yuri Borisov took over as CEO of Roskosmos on July 15 after Vladimir Putin fired the former head of the corporation.
