YouTube plans to compensate musicians and copyright holders for songs made with artificial intelligence (AI). Google’s video platform made a blog post this Monday (21) about its principles of partnership with the tech music industry.

Despite the excitement of the news, YouTube says the rights of artists should be protected. Therefore, the three key principles of working with AI-generated music are accountability to technology; protecting and opening up opportunities for musical partners; and establishing security and content policies with an industry-leading trust organization.

At the first point, the service will start Music AI Incubator, in partnership with Universal Music Group. Participating singer-songwriters include Brazilian star Anitta, composer and ABBA member Björn Ulvaeus, Colombian singer Juanes and the entire Frank Sinatra collection.

The incubator will help inform YouTube’s approach to using the technology. According to the platform’s own data, videos about productive tools were viewed 1.7 billion times in 2023 alone.

The second principle is precisely about the payment of royalties. The service already has Content ID, which will be updated to reach AI-powered music creators.. This tool is already AI-based and will be used to map artificially generated content at the third point.

“I realize that YouTube and the promise of AI will only succeed if our partners are successful. Together, we can embrace this new technology in a way that supports artists, songwriters, producers and the industry at large, creates value for fans and pushes boundaries. YouTube’s CEO’ It “creatively shows what’s possible,” said Neal Mohan.
