An additional layer of protection is designed to prevent unauthorized access to accounts and possible abuse by criminals. The verification step can be triggered when the user tries to perform actions such as creating or editing filters, adding forwarding addresses, or enabling IMAP access. If Google detects any “risky” activity during these processes, the user will be asked to verify their identity in order to continue.
In case of a failed or incomplete scan, users will receive a “critical security alert” to warn them of potential problems.
This additional security measure will apply to both Google Workspace users and people with personal Google accounts.
