WordPress announces the possibility of registering a domain name for a period of 100 years. The plan includes 24/7 support, managed web hosting, and other useful features. The cost is $38,000 (ie registration and hosting will cost $380 per year).
Normally, the maximum period for registering domain names in WordPress is limited to ten years. Therefore, it is quite unusual to be able to register a domain for a period of a century.
WordPress calls this new proposal the “100 Year Plan” and it includes:
- Domain protection for one hundred years,
- Multiple backups in data centers in different geographic locations.
- “Top Tier” Managed WordPress Hosting,
- Unlimited bandwidth/traffic,
- Dedicated and personalized support available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
WordPress ensures that the plan is designed for the widest possible audience, from individuals to company founders who want to document their company’s legacy.
“Whether it’s a special gift for a newborn in the form of a domain and a lifetime home on the internet, or something you put in your will to make sure your website and story are accessible to future generations, I hope that this plan will attract people and other companies to think about long-term development,” says Matt Mullenweg, CEO of WordPress.
