A group of MISIS students and graduates have developed an unmanned drone that can create unique images. This drone is equipped with in-flight flight control program, interactive interface, positioning system and image processing software. The team also assembled the drone itself.

The main feature of this drone is its unique positioning system. Using a single external camera with an infrared filter, LEDs and lidar on it, the drone can accurately determine its position in a 25×30 meter working area with 1 cm accuracy. In this way, uniform drawings of large sizes can be created and clear contours of various thicknesses can be applied.

The first work of this artistic drone was a mural on the wall of the NETI building of the Novosibirsk State Technical University. This mural is the largest in Russia, its area is about 300 square meters. The drone worked on this project for 27 days. Now the university building is decorated with a composition symbolizing science, technology and progress.

The developers emphasize that the use of the drone in art is rare, and such devices were previously used only to create small images, not outdoors. The project faced technical difficulties, including the need to use expensive MoCap systems with many specialized positioning cameras. Although the project was initially oriented as an artistic experiment, the team plans to develop this system further with the possibility of applying it to other fields such as painting and painting in hard-to-reach places where human work is possible. artist would be difficult.
