More than 70% of Russian companies do not secure their data against leaks. In 14% of cases, the damage from data loss exceeds one million rubles. The most expensive for companies was the leak of information constituting trade secrets and know-how, as well as personal data, Vedomosti writes, referring to the InfoWatch group of companies.

In 39% of cases, companies allowed the leak of personal data, in 24%, the loss of information that constituted a trade secret. Organizations in the field of education, the banking sector and the fuel and energy complex turned out to be insured only.

According to Angara Security Chief Sergei Sherstobitov, only a few dozen insurance contracts against information security risks have been signed in recent years. The main operators of these services are VSK, Sberstrakhovanie, Ingosstrakh and others, the expert specified.

  • At the end of May 2022, the Ministry of Digital Transformation agreed on a bill that provides for the introduction of a fine of 1% of annual revenue and up to 3% if the company does not report the leak to Roskomnadzor in time.
  • On June 6, the State Duma adopted in third reading amendments to the law “On Personal Data”: they introduce an obligation for all companies to report to Roskomnadzor about leaks of citizens’ personal information. Companies must report a breach to Roskomnadzor within 24 hours of discovering it, and within 72 hours of providing the results of the investigation and information on those responsible.
  • In July, the agency began discussing options to mitigate a bill that would introduce fines for companies for leaking personal data.

A fine will now be imposed on legal persons for data breaches under art. 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses is from 60 thousand to 100 thousand rubles, in case of recidivism – up to 500 thousand rubles.
