WhatsApp BetacI’ve started testing the shortcut for sending photos and videos in original quality. This option was found in version 2.23.19.3 of the messaging app for Android.

The source is located in the document sending menu. As website screenshots show WABetaInfoThe tool is called “Select from gallery” and is basically a shortcut to a known method, the author of the discovery said.

Using this method, the photo or video does not go through any WhatsApp compression algorithms even if it is in high resolution, unlike when sent using the traditional tool.

In this way, photos and videos are sent in their original quality, regardless of size. — Considering that there is a file transfer limit of up to 2 GB through the app. If they are large, the media will take up more space on the recipient’s mobile phone and may consume more mobile network to be sent or received.

WhatsApp is being tested in Beta

The shortcut is still exclusive to WhatsApp Beta testers, but any user has been able to send photos or videos as documents for years. To do this, you must select the “Document” option from the attachments menu.

There’s no estimate on the exact launch of the new product, but since it’s such a small thing, it might not take long to happen.
