In an effort to address EU concerns, Corning has committed to removing exclusivity clauses from existing contracts. The company has also pledged to avoid adding such clauses to future deals and to ensure customers are not required to purchase minimum quantities of products.
Corning also promised to enforce its safety glass patents only in cases of patent infringement, not breach of contract.
If approved by the EU, these commitments will be valid worldwide and will last for at least nine years. Compliance with obligations will be monitored, and if it fails to comply, the company could be fined up to $1.25 billion.
