Users are reporting via the Apple forum and MacRumors forum, among others, that their brand new Apple Studio Displays will not install a firmware update, MacRumors reports. The approximately $2000 screen will in some cases need to be taken to an Apple service point to complete the update.

It’s unclear where the screen update issues come from. Some users say they saw a message during the installation process: “Failed to install Apple Studio Display firmware. Please try again in an hour. If the problem persists, contact an Apple authorized service point.”

Apple Studio Display is an external monitor that can be connected to a Mac, for example. In the case of Studio Display, the screen is controlled by a modified version of the well-known iOS operating system. So, like most monitors, the Apple display uses firmware, but monitor firmware updates are not usually required or limited to the source hardware.
