This means the base game can be downloaded for free, with no purchase or subscription required. The company also announced that it will not use “energy mechanics”, which eliminates one of the common monetization systems in mobile games.

The game will be developed from scratch and will feature an in-game marketplace with both free and paid official and user-generated content. EA plans to add new content over time.

For example, core features like weather will be available to everyone in the base game and will later be expanded into paid packages.

Interestingly, the new game will co-exist with the current version of The Sims 4, which will continue to receive new content. This reinforces EA’s strategy to expand The Sims universe by providing players with a variety of entertainment options.
