The new iPhone models are available in four different models: a global model, a China model with physical Dual SIM, a model for regions such as Canada, Japan and Mexico, and a US-specific model. In previous presentations, Apple has highlighted the security benefits of eSIM as the SIM card cannot be removed from a stolen phone.
However, adoption of eSIM technology has been slow in some countries and many operators do not yet support it.
Removing the SIM card tray will free up internal space on the iPhone, but US models currently have a plastic block instead of the SIM card tray.
