The Government of the Russian Federation has ordered the Ministry of Energy to reduce the cost of connecting electric vehicle charging stations to power grids to “zero”. At the same time, operators will still have to pay for this service through a higher electricity transmission tariff, Kommersant has learned.

The Ministry of Energy was instructed to reduce the cost of connecting charging stations for electric cars

The authorities also recommended considering the option of paying for the connection by increasing the cost of electricity or renting the station installation site. Another option is to enter into a take-or-pay agreement with the grid company, which provides for payment for electricity transmission services not based on consumption, but based on the maximum power of the power plant.

The Ministry of Energy told the publication that they are now working on proposals that they plan to present to the government within the given deadline.

Station owners criticize the proposals because, given the low load, they are operating on the brink of profitability. Analysts believe that such changes will cause a wave of claims for benefits from other categories of consumers.

  • In July it emerged that developers could be forced to install electric vehicle charging stations near residential buildings during their construction. This idea is being studied by the Ministry of Construction; The department is also considering allowing the installation of stations without the owners’ consent.
