The ruling followed a courtroom hearing in which Google’s lawyers expressed concern that the Justice Department had posted documents online that Judge Amit Mehta was unaware of. The judge will need to rule on online access to evidence in the future.
Although Mehta did not object to the release of the documents, the Justice Department suggested that Google be notified in advance of its plans to prevent future disputes.
Public court documents are often published online during hearings, sometimes leading to unintentional disclosures that the IT giant did not specifically ask for.
