The information was confirmed by Microsoft itself in a post on the company’s blog, including a video showing a preview of the hotkey. It features the Copilot logo and will normally be positioned on the right side of the peripheralnext to the direction arrows.
According to the company, This is the most significant change to Windows keyboards in the last 30 years — Since the introduction of the key with the operating system logo that automatically opens the Start Menu.
Microsoft believes the Copilot switch will make the AI platform an “essential part” of users’ routines and help integrate the service with other operating system tools.
Copilot is the name chosen by the company to combine the chatbot, personal assistant and other artificial intelligence tools of the company. Previously, it was called Bing Chat in some environments.
Service free and uses language model GPT-4 to work. The technology comes from OpenAI and includes more parameters and more complex tasks than the free version of the popular ChatGPT.
Recently, the platform gained a version for Android mobile devices and also iOS. The company has also confirmed a version for Windows 10, but this is not yet expected to come to the older system.
So far, it has not been detailed which desktop and laptop manufacturers will include the Copilot switch in their next versions. Only Microsoft itself has confirmed the addition of the shortcut to later models of the Surface laptop family.
The models introduced at CES 2024, the technology fair held between January 9-12, will be the first with the new shortcut. These devices will be released in the coming months, starting from February this year.
