The company recognizes the need to offer a variety of battery options to meet different customer needs. To solve this problem, Toyota is developing four different options.
The first is a performance-oriented liquid electrolyte lithium-ion battery expected to be released in 2026. Designed to fast charge in 20 minutes and cost 20% less than existing batteries, it will give the EV a driving range of almost 800 km.
For cheaper cars, Toyota plans to use lithium iron phosphate cells, which will reduce cost by 40% and increase range by 20% compared to the bZ4x battery. These elements could be ready by 2026 or 2027.
Toyota plans to launch its high-performance lithium-ion battery with a range of approximately 1,000 km in 2028, with a 10% cost reduction.
Finally, Toyota is working on solid-state batteries targeting a range of over 900 km and a fast charging time of 10 minutes. Commercial use of these solid-state batteries is planned for 2027 or 2028.
