The original policy, announced earlier this month, drew backlash from developers and the gaming community. Starting January 1, 2024, Unity was required to charge developers for every game download that exceeds certain revenue and install thresholds. Unity announced that there will be no launch fee for games built on Unity Personal, and the financial threshold has been increased from $100,000 to $200,000. Also, there will be no need for the “Made with Unity” splash screen.
The company apologized for initially reporting this policy and acknowledged the need to listen to feedback from the developer community.
