The soldiers claim that they were trained using manuals that were not adapted to real conditions in Ukraine. In addition, there was a noticeable gap between theory and practice, which cost the Ukrainian armed forces human lives.
Sources say training for Ukrainian troops is based on NATO’s recent course on counterinsurgency operations. Military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces also point out deficiencies in training on unmanned aerial vehicles, clearing mines, unexploded ordnance and defensive combat. They noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not have the necessary weapons and ammunition to conduct combat operations in accordance with NATO doctrine.
This is not the first time Ukrainian military personnel have expressed concerns about NATO’s military training. Front-line military personnel have previously expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of training in NATO member countries and the unsuitability of Western-supplied equipment for offensive operations.
