Raspberry Pi 5 was released this Thursday (28). The microcomputer promises better performance and is being released for the first time. The first chip produced by the company itself.

Coming to the specifications, Raspberry Pi 5 is more powerful than the previous version. It comes with a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor with a frequency of 2.4 GHz. Graphics are provided by 800 MHz VideoCore VII.

The component produced by the Raspberry Pi Foundation is the southbridge. It is responsible for communication between the motherboard and peripherals, including input and output devices and expansion slots.

This new chip also features two more quad-lane 1.5Gbps MIPI transceivers. bus that can support two cameras or two displays. Another added component is PCI Express 2.0, which offers support for high throughput expansion cards that require a separate adapter.

Raspberry Pi 5’s HDMI Supports 4K images and 60 frames per second on up to two monitors with HDR. There are two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, and a 5V USB-C power jack.

Connectivity is provided by Bluetooth 5.0, Bluetooth Low Energy (LE). Wi-Fi is Dual-band 802.11ac. Finally, the high-speed microSD card interface now supports SDR104 mode, which promises even faster transfer speeds.

Price and availability

Raspberry Pi 5 is sold in two versions:

  • Raspberry Pi 5 – 4 GB: $60 (R$300, in direct conversion);
  • Raspberry Pi 5 – 8 GB: 80 US dollars (about R$ 400).

To ensure availability for all customers, the Raspberry Pi Foundation is limiting purchases to one unit per customer. Sales are currently carried out in partner stores worldwide.

In Brazil, the Raspberry Pi 5 can be found in authorized stores such as Newark, Robocore, Makerhero and Mouser for R$ 749 (4 GB) and R$ 999.90 (8 GB).
