High salaries and “gendered” profession: IT specialists named stereotypes that irritate them

The idea of universally high salaries in the industry has become the main stereotype that irritates IT specialists the most. This is clear from the results of a study carried out by the online programming school Hexlet.

33% of respondents talked about the myth of high salaries. One in three people mentioned the ability to repair any equipment as the main stereotype of her job. The same number pointed out that the main stereotype is to understand information technologies as an exclusively male profession.

IT specialists hear the most stereotypical statements (65%) on social media, while half of respondents do not pay attention to these statements.

1,025 IT specialists participated in the study. 36% of respondents work as a backend developer, 29% – frontend, 5% – fullstack, 30% work in IT, but are not developers.
